I’m a bit obsessed with cookbooks. I have over sixty of them. That's after getting rid of a bunch that weren't vegan.
Cooking is meditative for me. When I’m preparing a meal I’m completely in the moment. I feel that feeding my family healthy, nutritious and of course yummy food is a wonderful way to show them how much I love them.
Sometimes I find myself making the same dishes over and over. We have a few family favorites that I make often but it’s nice to try something new once in a while. Lately I’ve been trying to prepare one new dish each week. It’s been a lot of fun. Thank goodness I have so many cookbooks to choose from. :)
I often get asked for recommendations on my favorite vegan cookbooks. I have different ones I suggest depending on what someone is looking for.
Here's a list of some of my favorite vegan and plant based cookbooks and what I love about them:
Plant Powered Families by Dreena Burton – This is a great cookbook for families with easy recipes that are healthy and delicious. She has a section with school lunchbox ideas for kids and a sample menu plan.
Let them eat vegan by Dreeena Burton - This has lots of wonderful recipes too.
The Forks over Knives Plan: How to Transition to the Life-Saving, Whole-Food, Plant-Based Diet by Alona Pulde & Matthew Lederman - This book has a 4-week transition plan that is great for new people wanting to make the switch to a plant based lifestyle. It also has information about a plant based diet along with lots of recipes.
The Oh She Glows Cookbook by Angela Liddon – This is one of my newest cookbooks and the first recipe I tried was Summer Harvest Tortilla Soup and my family loved it. This is a great cookbook with information on stocking a vegan pantry, her favorite kitchen tools and equipment and over 100 recipes
Chocolate Covered Katie by Katie Higgins - This cookbook is filled with over 80 recipes for healthier sweets and desserts. It proves that you can eat a healthier plant based diet and still have your cake too. Two of my favorites so far are the Ultimate Unbaked Brownie and Deep Dish Cookie Pie. Many of her recipes are gluten free or give you an option to make them gluten free.
Chloe's Kitchen by Chloe Coscarelli This cookbook contains the recipe for her award winning Ginger Nutmeg Spice Cupcakes that took first prize on the Food Network's Cupcake Wars.
Her recipe for spinach artichoke dip is delicious! We serve it often and everyone loves it, even non-vegans. The spaghetti bolognese is also delicious and has become a family favorite.
Chloe's Vegan Italian Kitchen by Chloe Coscarell - This is one of my newer cookbooks so I haven't t many of the recipes yet. I've made the spicy tomato soup and vegan parmessan pita crisps, and they both were delicious.
Fragrant Vanilla Cake: Sweet and Savory by Amy Lyons – This is a raw cookbook with lots of delicious recipes.
Crazy, Sexy, Diet by Kris Carr - This book has information about a vegan diet and the health benefits, along with charts on where you get your protein, calcium, etc along with a few recipes and a 21 day cleanse program.
The book came about after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and began searching for natural healing solutions. It’s a great book if you are new to a vegan diet and want more information.
Crazy, Sexy Kitchen: 150 Plant-Empowered Recipes to ignite a Mouthwatering Revolution by Kris Carr with Chef Chad Sarno - This is her follow up book to the Crazy, Sexy, Diet and is more of a cookbook. It has an amazing recipe for Hearts of Palm Crabcakes that are delicious.
